How do I create an account?

You can create a new account using this link create a new account or using the link next to the login button on the front page.

This is a demonstration of how to create an account.

Click the "Create new account" link, below the "Login" button. Fill in your details in the appropriate boxes.

The SQA Academy uses a "Captcha" system to prevent spam. Type in the two words in the pictures with a space between them. If you cannot understand the words, click "Get another Captcha" and you will see two different words. You can repeat this as often as needed until you get a pair of readable words.

You can also change the type of Captcha, click "Get an audio Captcha" to change to an audio prompt.

"Please type every number you hear, spaces are not required. 1,0,6,8,4."

An audio Captcha reads out words and numbers, only enter the numbers you hear. The audio is meant to be hard to recognise, so computers can't analyse it, but if it is too hard to understand you can click "Get another Captcha" to get a new audio Captcha.

"Please type every number you hear, spaces are not required. 0,0,1,7,3."

You can repeat this as often as needed until you get understandable audio.

When you have filled out all your details and completed the Captcha, click "create my new account". You should see a notice saying you have been sent an email. You need to click a link in this email to activate your account.

Go to your email account. The email might not appear immediately, please be patient. If the email has not shown up within half an hour and you urgently need access, please contact the SQA Academy team. When the email arrives, open it. Click on the long link within the email, or copy and paste it into your browser address bar and press enter or click the go button.

You will get a message to say your account has been confirmed. Your account is now active and you can log into the SQA Academy. You can check if you are logged in by looking at the top right hand side of the window.

How do I enable pop-ups

If a pop-up window is blocked you will often see a message or alert icon in the browser, usually around or in the address bar, letting you know a pop-up was blocked, clicking on this message or alert icon will usually give you options you can choose from, including unblocking pop-ups for the current site you are on.

 

 

How do I get less emails from Forum posts?

If you want to change how often you get emails, but you don't want to stop getting them, you can adjust your preferences via your Account menu (icon at the top right) - Preferences - Forum preferences - Email digest type.

There are three options:

  • Email for every post
    • receive an email for every post in the forum
  • Digest (1 summary email per day)
    • a digest with the full text of each post from that day
    • a digest with just the title of each post from that day

If you want to change how often you get emails, but you don't want to stop getting them, you can adjust your preferences.

Click on your profile icon at the top right, click the "Preferences" option.

On your preferences page, click the "Forum preferences" link.

You can change how often you get emails from the "Email digest type" options.

"No digest" will send an email for every single post, "Complete" will send 1 email per day with the complete contents of all the posts and "Subjects" will send 1 email per day with just the title of each post.

When you have chosen the option you prefer click save.

How do I keep track of which posts I have read?

You can toggle post tracking on or off via your Account menu (icon at the top right) - Preferences - Forum preferences - Forum tracking.

Turn on post tracking

If you want to start or stop keeping track which forum posts you have read, click your name or icon at the top right to show your account menu.

Select Preferences

Select Forum preferences

Change the option in Forum tracking to “Yes: highlight new posts for me” or “No: don’t keep track of posts I have seen”.

Save the changes

How do I open a discussion topic?

On the forum page, find the discussion topic you wish to open, then select the title of the discussion as illustrated below (do not select the photo or name of the participant who started the post).

Links in the "Discussion" column highlighted green and ticked, links in the "Start by" column highlighted red and crossed out.

How do I reset my password?

You can reset your password using this link reset my password or using the link below the login button on the front page.

How to reset your password

  • Click the lost password button.
  • You will then be taken to a page where you can either put your email or username in the box or click search below.
  • Go to your email account.
  • The email might not appear immediately, please be patient.
  • If the email has not shown up within half an hour and you urgently need access, please contact the SQA Academy team.
  • When the email arrives open it.
  • Click on the long link within the email, or copy and paste it into your browser address bar and press enter.
  • You will be taken to the password change screen.
    This will show you your username which you may want to take a note of.
  • enter your new password twice
  • click the save changes button.
    You will then be logged in.

How do I stop getting emails from Forum posts?

If you want to stop getting emails from discussions you can unsubscribe from them.

You can unsubscribe from a discussion or an entire forum.

Unsubscribe from the forum or discussion emails

If you want to stop getting emails from discussions you can unsubscribe from them.

If you are viewing the discussion you wish to unsubscribe from, you can toggle subscription off or on using the links in the Administration block or to the top right of the discussion.

If you return to the Forum discussion list, you can also toggle a discussion’s subscription off or on using the icons in the right hand column.

If you are subscribed to the entire forum, any of the post will be emailed to you, even if you are not subscribed to the discussions.

You can toggle the forum subscription off or on using the link in the Administration block on the left.

How do I submit a question for the FAQ?

You can submit a question for the FAQ by emailing academy@sqa.org.uk and including the subject "FAQ".
