NextGen: HN

This module provides a better understanding of the Higher National Next Generation (NextGen: HN) programme of work and its purpose. It also provides an overview of how and why we established the programme, its current progress and a timeline of future work.

These courses provide guidance and activities for NextGen: HN learners to better understand and engage with the process of meta-skill development. They can be used either as stand-alone modules for learners to engage with, as they see fit, or can be incorporated as part of teaching and learning activities within NextGen: HN courses.

This course will support you to plan and reflect on your meta-skills development and record how your confidence grows with meta-skills over time.

For NextGen: HN centres, we are also trialling the set-up of a centre-specific profiler. This course will support learners to plan and reflect on their meta-skills development and has the option for practitioner permissions, allowing them to view learner work. If you are interested in using the SQA Academy profiler as a class resource, please contact us by completing this form.

This module is about the inclusion of meta-skills in Next Generation Higher National Qualifications.

Its purpose is to provide an overview of what meta-skills are, how they are included in NextGen HN, and how they can be developed and assessed. It is intended for practitioners who are or will be planning the integration of meta-skills into HN courses.

This learner course provides a basic introduction to meta-skills and self-reflection. It can be used either as a stand-alone for learners to work through themselves, or as part of teaching and learning activities to develop a shared language for meta-skills in the context of particular subjects.

This module aims to develop a basic understanding of some of the key social, economic, and environmental challenges we face alongside the role of the UN SDGs and Scotland’s approach to LfS.

By the end of this module the learner will be able to:

  • Understand importance of a Change Impact Assessment.
  • Be confident in identifying all the relevant stakeholders who may be impacted.
  • Know where to find further support and resources.
  • Complete a Change Impact Assessment.
